An overview on retinopathy of prematurity, its screening and its complications later in life. I will also try to make this relevant to allied health professionals by informing on signs that a child’s vision may be impaired. (Dr Ismail Makda)
This presentation will offer a comparative analysis of WHO guidelines on protecting neurodevelopment in premature infants, focusing on Skin-to-Skin (S2S) practices and the Neo-Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI). It examines these guidelines in the context of South Africa, highlighting disparities between global recommendations and local realities. The aim is to provoke discussion on advocating for the ethical rights of premature infants and their primary caregivers, rather than proposing solutions. (Annelie van der Westhuyzen)
